Who I Am

It was 1995 in the Netherlands when I was born to two adventurous world travelers.  I lived in 3 different continents before the age of 2 years, residing in the Netherlands, Indonesia, then New York.  The travelers decided to settle down in California when my brother came along.  Growing up 45 minutes out of Los Angeles provided me with the most blessed, memorable, and perfect childhood.

During that time, my mom fell fast for the people of Haiti.  How fast?  Well, she founded a non-profit organization and brought home a picture of a little girl to my dad saying, "this little girl needs a daddy".  After years and years of a roller coaster ride of an adoption process, I joined my mom in July 2003 to bring my new sister home.

I was nine years old and on a plane to Haiti for the first time.  Little did I know that a new, everlasting part of my life was beginning to grow.  I was visiting the orphanage that my mom founded, Three Angels Children Relief, my sister's home at the time.  God knew that this trip to Haiti would plant a love like no other for this country within me. I have been back to Haiti many times and I fall even harder and deeper in love with her and her people over the years.

Today, I am an author, speaker, and worship leader who desires to use God's truth, love, and presence to help break the chains and heal of heart break, unviel the lies Satan whispers, and explore God's intentions for romantic relationships.

I could tell you more about how much God has taught me about being a young woman chasing His heart and about romantic relationships here on earth; while that's all true, this page is to help you get to know me! So here are a few facts you can't find anywhere else:

~ I'm a free-spirited saprano with a passion for leading people in worship.

~ I lived in 3 different continents before I was 3 years old. (My parents have always traveled the world.) Still today I travel globally.

~ I'm a photographer! I have my own photography business, New Song Photography by Elisabeth Huijskens.

~ My favorite place to worship since I was 9 years old is on a roof top in Haiti while Haitian women sing hymns in Creole.

~ I like sunlight in open fields.

~ Concerts are fun, even if I don't know the band playing.

~ I recently cut off my hair. (I guess that's not a fact you can't get anywhere else..)

~ I watch "Live with Regis and Kelly" -- or Kelly and Micheal now. Regis' retirement really threw off my mornings.

~ I was 15 and participating in a church-wide 21 day fast when God told me I needed to do what I never thought possible: write a book. And here we are. (:
